How Termite Baiting Systems Work

Termite baiting systems use the natural foraging behaviour of subterranean termites against them. In-ground monitoring stations are installed at regular intervals around the perimeter of your property — typically every three to four metres and at key risk points such as garden beds, near trees, and along fence lines.

Each station contains a timber monitoring element that is highly attractive to termites. During scheduled service visits, our technicians check every station for signs of termite feeding. When termites are detected in a station, the monitoring element is replaced with a bait matrix containing an active ingredient that termites cannot detect.

The foraging termites feed on the bait and carry it back to the colony, sharing it through their natural food-exchange behaviour (trophallaxis). Over a period of weeks, the active ingredient spreads through the colony and eliminates it completely — including the queen.

Why Colony Elimination Matters

A single subterranean termite colony can contain hundreds of thousands to millions of individual termites, and a mature colony can consume the equivalent of a standard timber stud in as little as a few months. Killing only the termites visible at the point of entry does not solve the problem — the colony continues to send new foragers.
